Stern 7E81D - band pointer

Beitrag von PJ. »

Hello,
does anyone here have Stern 7E81D? I have a trouble with pointer of selected band (KW1-3, MW LW TA) - rope was missing and although I inserted a new one, it doesn't quite work - it's moving in small steps - not enough to move from one band "window" to another. Or maybe this is how it's supposed to work? You can see in the attachments how it currently looks like. In the first picture you can see that it's set on KW I. But then if I move band selector all the way down to TA, pointer is only halfway up.
Anybody has any idea?

Best regards
Piotr

Hello,

this is quite a rare radio type. And this shown trouble you can find on many other early fifties radios with rotaryband switch. Make sure that rope has the same diameter (thickness) like the first one. Not an elastic rope. Tractive firmly!
But only the half way by pointer run is too much. Perhaps you can try to use an other (smaller) rope rail. Try with differrent diameters. It seems that the rope line way is appropriately.

Good luck!

Hello,
thank you for your answer, I've tried steel wire (similar to the one used in tuning) and it works perfectly now. So I guess the rope was stretching too much somewhere, although when I was checking it in my hands it seemed stiff enough.
I know this is rare radio, I've been looking for it for years. Got one a few months ago in very poor condition, but it didn't survive in the package, but this one is a real gem.
I'll post some pictures later :)

Best regards
Piotr
